The Brazilian Carbon Association (ABCarb) is pleased to announce the creation of the Marcos Pimenta Award, established to recognize the best work developed by undergraduate students in the field of carbon-based materials. This award honors the scientific legacy and commitment of Prof. Marcos Pimenta to carbon research in Brazil.
In the 2026 edition, during the 11th Brazilian Carbon Congress, organized by ABCarb and the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), the inaugural award was granted to PUC-MG student Pollyana Rocha dos Santos for her work developed at CTNano-MG, entitled “Nanocomposite Coatings against Hydrogen Embrittlement in Structural Steels.”
As part of the award, the student was nominated for the MITACS Program, through which she will take part in a selection process for a four-month funded research internship under the supervision of Professor Dr. Flavia Braghiroli, from the Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue (UQAT), in Canada.
ABCarb congratulates the awarded student and, with the implementation of this new prize, seeks to promote and encourage innovation and the development of new talent in the carbon field in Brazil.
